Are You Interested in joining the Zervas School Council?
The School Council is a great way to get involved with important decisions that affect our children. Mandated by state law, the Council serves as an advisory board to the principal. Members include Steve Griffin, 4 teachers and 5 parent representatives, and a community member. School Council provides a forum to discuss and advise the principal on issues that arise throughout the year, including programmatic and budgeting matters; the school improvement plan; safety and building maintenance issues; and other relevant topics. Meetings are held once a month from 7pm to 8:30pm, with the schedule set at the beginning of the school year.
Zervas School Council is a separate entity from the PTO. School Council focuses on programmatic, operational, and budgetary issues, while the PTO provides social and community support and curriculum enhancement activities. The PTO administers the School Council election each year.
Parents are elected for 3-year terms to School Council. This June, two representatives (Carla Brigham and Cathy Goodfriend) are completing their terms. If you would like to be a candidate for School Council beginning in the fall of 2011, please write a short description of your background, why you are interested in the position, and how you would make a difference to Zervas. Candidate statements can be left in the PTO box in the office or e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org and are due by Friday, May 27th.
The School Council election will be held on Monday, June 6th, Tuesday, June 7th and Wednesday, June 8th at drop off, pickup and at the Zervas Family Picnic.
If you are considering running for School Council and have questions, please contact any of the current representatives listed below or talk with Stephen Griffin for further information.
