We hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving holiday. It is hard to believe how quickly fall has passed. We are thankful for all the help we have received from the Zervas community over the last month. Thanks to Brenda Harsham for organizing Trick or Treat for UNICEF. Thanks also to Caroline Wilson who was the driving force behind the election day bake sale which was a great success. Mary Kralis-Hoppe once again made sure that School Photo Day ran smoothly and our thanks to her for all her hard work over the years. Thanks also to Amy Behrens and Jacqueline Butera who organized a panel of Zervas parents to speak about diversity. Those who attended had a wonderful opportunity to share their experiences with other Zervas parents and our thanks to the panel members for sharing their stories with the community. We also thank Louise Bonegio for the great job she did with the Library Gift Book Sale–many new books will be available in the library thanks to her hard work and the generosity of our Zervas families.
This week is Inclusive Schools Week when we celebrate the efforts of staff and parents to make Zervas a more open and inclusive community. Remember to ask your children what they are doing in class to highlight inclusion. The annual coat drive is underway at Zervas and will continue until December 21st. Please bring in winter coats which you are no longer using, and Anton’s cleaners will clean the coats and help distribute them. The Auction Committee is already hard at work making plans for the Zervas Auction which will be held on March 9th. The committee depends on donations to make the auction a success so please think about donating an item.
Recently, we have had some issues with parking during drop-off and pick-up which we would like to call to your attention. Cars have been parking right up against the edge of the driveway of the house next to Zervas, sometimes even partially blocking the driveway. This is extremely inconvenient and upsetting to our neighbor and she has asked for our help with this. We want to maintain good relations with our neighbors, so please be courteous and observe the signs which prohibit parking within five feet of the driveway.
We kick off our Annual Appeal this week and you should be receiving a letter in your child’s folder about this. If you are considering an end of the year charitable contribution, we hope you will consider making a tax deductible donation to the PTO. We use the money we raise each year to fund enrichment programs, technology, teacher appreciation and training, and community events. A donation of any size is very helpful and most appreciated. If you have any questions about the Annual Appeal or any other PTO activities or events, please feel free to contact us.
