Dear Zervas Families,
We can’t believe that it is May already, and that we have less than two months left of school! We had a very busy April, and ended the month with Newton Serves, where dedicated Zervas parents and children helped spruce up the grounds around the school. Thank you to Ron Abel for leading this effort once again, and to the many parent and children volunteers who came out to lend a hand.
We hope that many of you enjoyed walking to school on Wednesday as part of the Walk to School Day. There are so many benefits to walking to school, and we thank Jenn Martin and Sandy Sloane for their efforts in raising awareness and coordinating this program and for ensuring that our crossing guards feel appreciated.
The Zervas Fair is coming up this weekend, Saturday May 16 from 11am – 2pm, and is a wonderful way for your children to spend a few hours (or more) participating in fun games both inside and outside of Zervas. Heather Sussman and Adam and Stephanie Brown (along with former parent Helen Haley) are planning the Fair this year, and they need lots of volunteers to make it successful. Please consider working a short, one hour shift at the fair – it is a lot of fun and a great way to meet other Zervas families, and we can’t do it without you! Please use the link at http://vols.pt/x8QoSv to sign up or e-mail Heather Sussman at firstname.lastname@example.org and she can sign you up manually. Please encourage your 5th, 6th and 7th graders to volunteer, too – every year they are some of our most enthusiastic helpers with face painting and running games!
And finally, your PTO is busy planning for next year and we need your help! There are several committee chairpersons moving on, and we really need your help to keep doing what we do. Please contact either one of us at email@example.com, grab us in the hallway or speak to any board member if you are interested in helping out next year. Some of the positions we are looking to fill are: Green Committee Chair, Family Picnics Co-Chair, Auction Co-Chairs, Social Action Committee Chair, and various roles within Kindergarten Soccer. We are also creating a new position next year: Grade Parent. Each grade will have one or two Grade Parents, who will plan and coordinate a couple of mom/dad/ parent nights to help maintain our community though the transition to Carr. We’re still formulating the specific duties of the Grade Parents, but we anticipate a few other grade responsibilities, including teacher appreciation month activities. We are happy to try to find the right fit, whatever your schedule and interests – so please reach out to us so we don’t have to beg!!!!
Enjoy the gorgeous weather, and we hope to see you at the Fair!
