Co-Presidents Letter – June 2015

Dear Zervas Families,

May was a very busy month and June, as always, is shaping up to be even busier! A huge thank you to Heather Sussman and Adam and Stephanie Brown for organizing the Zervas Fair on May 16th. It was a fantastic day filled with tried-and-true games, pizza and popcorn, and new offerings such as the tie-dye shirt table, the scavenger hunt and professional face-painting. We also want to thank all the parents, children and alumna who helped out at the Fair and to those of you who just came for the fun! We couldn’t have done this without you and hope most of you enjoyed getting to spend this time with your children and other families!

This past week was the Library Gift Book Sale, run by Lou Bonegio with great organization and enthusiasm – thank you, Lou, and all of the volunteers who helped out!

Looking ahead, we have a number of events coming up before the end of school. Please mark your calendars for Color Day, which is scheduled for Tuesday June 9th. We also hope you can join us for the Family Picnic, which will be held at Zervas on Wednesday June 10th, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Please consider helping to give out pizza and drinks at the event; you can sign up at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084eada623a1f85-zervas or contact Junxia Wang or Sanskriti Singh for further information and to volunteer. Thank you to Meryl, Matt Goldstein and Deb Stump for organizing Color Day, to Junxia and Sanskriti for organizing the picnic and to all of you who will be helping out with these events – what a great way to end the school year!

And finally, we’d like to invite you to attend the end of year general PTO meeting, which will be held on Friday June 12th. The teachers will be throwing a volunteer appreciation coffee at 8:30 a.m. for all of the volunteers who have helped out at all this year. Please join us for coffee even in you haven’t yet had an opportunity to be involved – we would love to talk with you about ways that you might help out next year! The “business” part of the meeting will begin at approximately 9:00 a.m. At that time, we will be presenting and voting on PTO Board Members for the 2015-2016 school year. The proposed slate for next year is:

Thank you to Kira Goddess, who will be stepping down as Treasurer. She has performed yeomen’s work in deciphering reimbursement requests, keeping up with the ever-changing rules regarding equity, ensuring that we have enough cash on hand for events (and that the deposits are made after the events), managing the budget and keeping us all informed financially – we will miss you, Kira! Let’s try to make her last year-end as painless as possible – please make sure that all of your reimbursement requests are in the office by June 10th so that she can close out the year at the end of June!

One last item – it’s never too early to start planning your menu for Destination Dinner! This year, Destination Dinner will be held in October (on the 3rd), to better take advantage of outdoor entertaining areas and warmer temperatures for walking from cocktails to dinner to home.
