Hi Zervas Parents,
Chillier, darker days. The never ending task of raking leaves. Cooking a Thanksgiving dinner for 25 people. What’s not to love about November!?! Well, keep reading and you will find some fun Zervas activities to lighten up the month.
First, some appreciation for the volunteers of last month’s events!
Wendy Feiner, Noemy Ehrlich, and Ginna Driscoll deserve a huge thank you for organizing a fabulous Destination Dinner night. We heard so many great stories about the evening. The descriptions of the meals were mouth-watering! Thank you also to all the families who opened their homes and served delicious dinners. A special thank you to Lori Berkowitz and Scott Perman for hosting the cocktail party and to Noemy and Dana Ehrlich for hosting dessert!
Over 50 people turned out for a terrific Dynamic Diversity night sponsored by Zervas Community Connections! Amy Behrens took the lead in organizing the evening but had a lot of help from Harriet Howell (Hurworth), Chris O’Rourke, Maggie Williamson, Alexandra Harmon, Jonathon Swersey, Suzanne Chow, Julie Swersey, Joseph Lareau, Utku Unver, Amy Ly, and Jenn Martin. Don’t miss the next one! These evenings are a great way to connect families and foster our Zervas community.
The Halloween dance was as crazy and fun as ever with some neat new features including a photo booth! Thank you to Barbara Talvitie and her team Jen Glennon, Nicole Newman, Krystle Benedict, and Christine Lukacs-Lesburg. The kids had a blast.
Mark your calendars for a few upcoming November events that you will not want to miss.
The Zervas Variety Shows will be held on Wednesday, November 9th for Kindergarteners through third graders and on Wednesday, November 16th for fourth and fifth graders. Both shows begin at 6:30 in the Zervas at Carr gym. If your child is a singer, dancer, musician, actor, poet, magician, comedian, gymnast, or has any other special talent to share, make sure to turn in the form to Mr. Mignone by tomorrow, November 2nd. Permission slips went home last week or you can find a copy here.
On Thursday, November 10th at 8:30am, Lisa DePalma will host the first Parent Coffee of the year at her home at 206 Winslow Road in Waban. We began organizing these gatherings last year when everyone was taking the bus to Carr, and parents were missing out on catching up with each other at drop-off and pick-up at school. Please swing by for coffee and conversation with old friends or ones you’ve just met.
The Newton Turkey 5K Turkey Trot, which raises money for the Newton Food Pantry, is organized by a group of Zervas parents, including their fearless leader Priya Wagner. It is a wonderful event that many Zervas families train for, as running 3.1 miles is no easy task! It will take place on Saturday, November 19th, starting on Beethoven road near the new Zervas. Kids who are not yet up for the 5K can participate in a 1-mile fun run starting at 8:30am. The 5K kicks off at 9:00 am. Even if you are not a runner, come out to cheer or volunteer! For more details, registration, and volunteer information, check out www.newtonturkeytrot.com.
We are hoping to hold a Family Game night in January 2017 but we are looking for some folks to step up and help organize it. If you are interested in lending a hand, please reach out to the PTO at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We hope to see you at one of the fun Zervas events listed above! If you have any questions or suggestions, do not hesitate to contact us.
