Happy Fall,
October has been a busy month. We had our first sunny walk to school day in years on Wednesday, October 5th. Thank you to Joe Sypek for coordinating this event and to all the families who walked to school that day, helping both our environment and our health.
Room Parents have been busy at work, helping their classes and teachers in many ways. Thank you to Alice Wong for leading this program, and to those of you who have volunteered to be room parents. We would also like to thank Stephanie Cogen for leading the Library Volunteer Program, and acknowledge the parents who come in to help in the library by checking out books and reshelving them.
On Friday, Oct. 14th, Amy and Craig Waksler opened their home to the new Zervas families for a pizza party. It was a terrific evening. We would like to thank the Wakslers and the new families who came out to join us.
The Zervas annual Halloween Dance was another raving success thanks to the many parent volunteers who donated their time. We couldn’t have run the event without you. A special thank you to our Halloween Dance committee co-chairs Elyssa Freedman and Michele Miller.
Also, during the month of October, parent volunteers (Helen Haley, Jen Harter, Jill Roberts, Debora Compton, Jane Lanzillo, Alicia Collins and Erika Pond ) educated the 4th graders on learning disabilities as part of the Understanding our Differences Program, headed up by Lisa DePalma. And, our first graders enjoyed “digging for bugs” and learning to be scientists courtesy of the Creative Arts and Sciences Program, co-chaired by Liz Beckett and Elizabeth Graham. Please read the CASC section of this newsletter for an update on the program.
As you can see, the PTO has a lot going on and many parent volunteers helping to make it all come together. We are grateful for your help and apologize if we’ve inadvertently failed to thank anyone.
Looking forward to November, we hope you’ll join us at the Zervas Destination Dinner this coming Saturday night, Nov. 5th. It is always a great event for socializing with other parents and meeting new friends.
Our Library Gift Book Sale will be held right after Thanksgiving break. This is an opportunity for families to purchase books for the Zervas Library and dedicate a book to a special teacher or member of the Zervas staff. More information will follow on this event.
We wish all Zervas families a healthy and happy month and hope you have an enjoyable Thanksgiving Break.
Best,
