Traffic Council meeting Feb. 2nd

The Zervas community is invited to attend a meeting of the Traffic Council on Thursday, February 2nd at 7:00 pm. Alderman John Rice will  propose that the “Do Not Enter” sign at the intersection of Beethoven Avenue and Beacon Street (on school days during the hours of 8:00am – 9:00am and 2:30pm-3:30pm) becomes permanent.

The “Do Not Enter” sign was put in place prior to the start of the 2011-2012 school year on a trial basis only and the Traffic Council will revisit this issue at their February 2nd meeting. After public comment and Council discussion, they may approve, deny, or hold over the request until another meeting. The Traffic Council welcomes comments from the public – either at the meeting or via e-mail at trafficcouncil@newtonma.gov – and the voices of neighbors and others affected by the decision carry a lot of weight with the Council as they deliberate.

The sign has reduced congestion in front of Zervas during drop off and dismissal times, as traffic flows only one way during these times and gridlock has been greatly reduced.  However, it has also made it necessary for cars to access Beethoven from either Woodward or Puritan during these hours.
