With winter finally giving us some snow, Newton’s Safe Routes To School (SRTS) Task Force wanted to let you know that anywhere you encounter a blocked or iced-over sidewalk, or a dicey intersection along your walk to Zervas, it should be reported to the City of Newton. Clearing sidewalks and keeping them free of ice is not only the neighborly thing to do, it is the law.
Please use Newton 311 to let the City know about sidewalks blocked by snow, fallen branches and other obstacles and to help make Newton safe for everyone!
- Call 311 from a landline or access Newton 311 on the web at www.newtonma.gov.
- The 311 reporting system is the big green button on the left side of the Newton homepage and it is easy to navigate – and anonymous.
- While there, please feel free to report anything else that you think needs to be repaired or addressed to make your family’s walk to school safer, this also includes overgrown hedges that block the sidewalk or vision, broken pavement, faded crosswalk paint, even traffic lights that change too quickly or too slowly (or don’t work) to help pedestrians cross.
Thanks for reading, and for your time and help. If you have any questions or prefer that someone else does the reporting, please contact Joe Sypek firstname.lastname@example.org, our Zervas Representative for Newton’s SRTS Task Force.
