Co-Presidents Letter

Dear Zervas Families,

May was a very busy month, and June looks to be shaping up to be even busier. A big thank you to Joe Sypeck for organizing the Walk to School day on May 1, and for all he has done to promote this program over the years. We also want to thank all the parents and children who came to the Zervas Fair on May 11th. We couldn’t have done this without you and hope most of you enjoyed getting to spend this time with your children! A special thank you David Dubin, Heidi Gambino, and Cameron Dubin, as well as to Marc, Tracy  and Cameron Miller who worked  very hard (and did a lot of lifting) to set up the fair.

This week is the Library Gift Book Sale, taking place each morning from June 3 – June 7 either in the main hallway of Zervas or outside, if the weather cooperates. We are also looking for two people from the parent community to serve on the Zervas School Council, beginning their three-year terms in the Fall of 2013. Please see the next notice immediately below this letter for further information, and instructions on how to apply. Candidate statements are due by June 7, and the election will take place the week of June 10th.

Looking ahead, we have a number of events coming up that we’d like to call your attention to. Please mark your calendars for Color Day, which happens during the school day on June 11th. We are still looking for volunteers, so please sign up using the link below or contact either Meryl Miller or Lenny Brown with any questions. We also hope you can join us for the Family Picnic, which will be held at Zervas on Wednesday June 12, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Please consider helping to give out pizza and drinks at the event. Contact either Heidi Gambino or Alison Glastein for further information and to volunteer. Questions concerning these events can also be e-mailed to volunteer@zervaspto.org.

And finally, we’d like to invite you to attend the end of year general PTO meeting, which will be held on Friday June 14th. The teachers will be throwing a volunteer appreciation coffee for us beginning at 8:20 a.m., and the “business” part of the meeting will begin at approximately 9:00 a.m. We will be reviewing the highlights of the year and voting on PTO officers for the 2013-2014 school year.

We hope you enjoy the last few weeks of school and hope to see you at one of upcoming events.

– Joanne and Helen
