Co-President’s Letter

Dear Zervas Families:

We hope that you are settling comfortably into the routines of the new school year.  September has been a very busy month at Zervas and the PTO has been very active. We had a big turnout for the Back to School Picnic and it was great to see so many new faces.  Thanks to Heidi Gambino for organizing this event and to those who volunteered that evening to help out.  The weather was perfect for Picture Day and the kids looked fantastic.  Pictures should be coming home in a few weeks, and we have scheduled a retake day on November 12th for those who were absent or would like to have the photos redone.  The day went very smoothly in large part as a result of the help of our parent volunteers.  Thanks to Julie Goetzler, Lisa DePalma, Jennifer Smelson, Kathleen Murray, Elisa D’Andrea, Erin Grabowski, Carla Brigham and Julie Kay.  We also welcomed our new families at a pizza party hosted by Erika and Kyle Pond who generously opened their home for the event.  Thanks to the Ponds for all their hard work to make the evening so warm and welcoming.

October is also shaping up to be an event filled month.  Please join us on Wednesday October 2nd for the PTO General Meeting where we will discuss and vote on the budget for the coming year.  The PTO meeting will be followed by a panel of Zervas parents who will share their diverse experiences as members of the Zervas community.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about the PTO  as well as the Zervas community.

We are hoping for good weather for the A-Z Walk on October 8th when Zervas and Angier will meet each other at Lincoln Field to promote walking and healthy lifestyles.  We need lots of parent volunteers so please let your child’s teacher know if you can join us for the walk.  International Walk to School Day follows right after on October 9th and we hope that as many families as are able will walk to school on that day.  Jenn Martin is hard at work organizing for these two events and will have special prizes on October 9th to celebrate walking to school.

The Halloween Dance is coming up later this month, on Friday October 25th.  Please consider lending a hand if you are coming to this fun event.  We hope you are also planning  to join us for the Destination Dinner on November 2nd.  It’s a great chance to socialize with old and new friends.

We have many committees planning programs and activities throughout the year, so please find some way to get involved.  If you have any questions, please let us know by emailing  We look forward to a great year!

Helen Haley and Amy Waksler, Co-Presidents
