Dear Zervas Families:
We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. We started a new Thanksgiving tradition at Zervas this year–the Zervas Thanksgiving turkey. The kids brought beautifully decorated feathers to school and drank hot cider while they added their feathers to the turkey. Many thanks to Jenn Martin for organizing this project and designing the turkey as part of our first Thanksgiving Walk to School Day. It was inspirational to see Jenn walking to school that morning with two small children, a double stroller loaded with a vat of hot cider, a giant cardboard and foam turkey, and a construction sign for mounting the turkey.
Earlier in the month, Lisa DePalma organized the excellent presentation by Sarah Ward on executive functioning, and we thank her for all the time and effort she put into planning this event. Lisa is also organizing a lunch to recognize all the efforts of our wonderful staff in honor of Inclusive Schools Week. Thanks to Lisa for all her work to plan this.
The Cookie Swap for the Zervas staff is coming up on December 10th. This is always a much anticipated and appreciated event, so please donate a batch or two of cookies if you can. Elisa D’Andrea is once again organizing the cookie swap, as well as the holiday luncheon for the staff. Elisa has done a terrific job for several years as the organizer of staff appreciation activities. It’s Elisa’s last year at Zervas and we want to recognize all her hard work and thoughtfulness in organizing so many lovely events.
The coat drive is underway so please drop off your gently used coats and snowpants in the bin outside the office. Thanks to Elaine Goldberg for once again spearheading this important community effort. The Zervas Library Gift Book Sale is also taking place this week. Please stop by the table in the main hall to see all the wonderful books which Ms. Broderick has picked out to enhance the library collection. Dedicating a book is a great way to recognize a teacher, family member or friend. Many thanks to Louise Bonegio who is once again in charge of the book sale.
We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of all the volunteers who help to make Zervas such a warm and caring community. We wish you all a peaceful holiday season.
Best,
Helen and Amy
