Dear Zervas Families:
It’s wonderful to see a bit of sunshine and feel the air getting warmer (at least a little!) Thanks to all of you who attended the Auction last week. There were some crazy outfits, and it was a fantastic party as well as an extremely successful fundraiser. Our three Auction co-chairs, Jillian Queen, Kristin Knuuttila, and Alison Glastein, worked incredibly hard over the last few months and did an amazing job managing a very complex event. We are so appreciative of all their hard work. They had help from a very dedicated committee who went above and beyond this year in soliciting donations, organizing the raffles and classroom baskets, and planning food, decorations and entertainment. We owe a big thank you to this great committee which included Barbara Talvitie, Joelle Lieman, Jessica Davis, Alicia Collins, Julie Goosman, Scott Friedman, Louise Bonegio, Stephanie Berzin, Jessica Savage, Erin Grabowski, Lisa Strope, Heidi Gambino, Kira Goddess and Kim Neal. We can’t wait to see what happens with the Auction next year!
We have some other great events coming up in the next few weeks. The Respect for Human Differences Committee will hold another Dynamic Diversity Night on April 29th. Lots of families joined us for the last Dynamic Diversity Night and had a great time, and we hope many of you can join us again on April 29th. It’s also time to spruce up the school grounds after a long winter, and Ron Abel is spearheading this effort under the umbrella of Newton Serves. Though the citywide Newton Serves Day is on April 29th, we will host our event on Saturday, May 3rd from 12 to 4 so that we do not conflict with the last weekend of the school vacation week. We are happy to have your help for an hour or two if that is what you can contribute, or stay the whole time. You can register online to participate. Also, please remember the Make Change Drive which the fifth graders are running to raise money for Children’s Hospital. Each classroom has a collection bin for the change your child brings into school. The deadline to send in change is April 11th.
We are actively recruiting to fill volunteer positions for the upcoming school year. Whether you have a lot or a little time to give, we have something for you to do. We depend on parent volunteers to maintain a vibrant school community, and we look forward to having new volunteers in the coming school year.
Best,
Helen and Amy
