Co-Presidents Letter – Feb 2016

Dear Zervas Families:

It was great to have so many of you join us at Carr for the Family Scavenger Hunt, which was a wonderful  way for our kids to show their new space to us.  A special thank you to Dr. Beck and the 5th Grade Student Council for planning the night and creating the questions, and to Tim and Ambika D’Souza for coordinating a fabulous Hoodsie ice cream sundae bar.

Stay tuned for more information on a few new events planned for this winter and spring.  Our next Parent Social Coffee will take place right after the February Vacation week on Thursday, February 25 at 8:30 a.m.  Zervas will be hosting a Parenting Workshop at Carr on Thursday, March 3 from 7:30-9 p.m. Newton educator Amy Kelly will teach parents how to reinforce at home the social and emotional learning techniques being taught at school. And on Friday, April 8, Newton’s Creative Arts & Sciences program will host an adult cocktail reception and chance to see Crocodile River Music, as seen and loved by our kids at school this past fall.

Our Creative Arts & Sciences and Zervas Community Connections Committees also are hard at work planning a Family Cultural Event featuring cuisines and traditions from the many different cultures that are are part of our Zervas community.  More information and a date will be announced soon.

The Zervas Auction committee is continuing to seek donations from parents, including tickets to sport or other events, use of vacation homes, and hosts for community dinners, parties, and playdates.  Please contact us with any donation or other ideas by the end of February at pto@zervaspto.org.  Online bidding and ticket sales will be available through our website from March 28 through April 3 and our tropical-themed Zervas at CAR(R)ibbean party and silent auction will take place at the Windsor Club on Saturday, April 9 from 7-11 p.m.  Also look out for an email from your grade parents after the February vacation week asking for your help in creating baskets for the auction.  This year, we will be auctioning one basket for each grade with items of specific interest to the kids.

We decided not to run a Spring Fair this year.  We do not have any volunteers interested in organizing the fair and our location at Carr on the other side of Newton makes hosting a fair less convenient.  Please let us know if you are interested in helping to plan and organize a family fair next year so that we can bring it back onto our calendar.  The fair can be completely different from our past fairs!
