Dear Zervas Families:
With only two months left of school this year, we are busy planning for next year and would love your help! Our goal is to find the right fit for each of you in view of your schedule and interests — whether it is as a committee chair, grade or room parent, board member or committee volunteer. Please reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org or approach any Board member to let us know that you are interested in getting more involved. We really need your help to keep doing what we do!
In addition to a very successful fundraising auction, we kicked off another successful season of our kindergarten soccer program in April. The money we raise from the auction and kindergarten soccer program accounts for most of our budget and this year’s revenue puts us in great financial shape for the 2016-17 school year. We would like to call out a special recognition to Jenn Martin, who has done an outstanding job running the program for the past two years, and especially for her tireless efforts this past year addressing where the teams will play this spring and next year while we are at the Carr School. We are thrilled that Merrill Barnes has volunteered to be one of the main coordinators for the program next fall and we are actively seeking another main coordinator to work with Merrill. We also are seeking volunteers to assist with web administration and publicity, which are great roles for parents who work outside the home as the responsibilities are all managed electronically and at limited times during the school year. Please let us know if you are interested or know of any incoming kindergarten families who may be interested. Our thank yous to this year’s committee extend to Matt Feiner for managing equipment orders, Lorna Dunne for forming the teams, Kai Shanahan for publicizing the program throughout Newton, Natascha Gundersen for coordinating equipment logistics, Mira Woods for awarding trophies, and Debra Stump for ordering tee shirts. And to the entire kindergarten soccer committee, with guidance from Alicia Collins, Matt Goldstein, and Meryl Miller, in assisting Jenn in exploring where the teams will play and all of the related logistics.
This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and we plan to recognize our incredible staff with a breakfast in their honor this week and a special end-of-year luncheon in June. We’d love to hear other suggestions from you on ways to show our appreciation.
Looking ahead to other events in June, please mark your calendars for our Family Cultural Event at Carr on Sunday, June 5 from 5-7 pm, Color Day on Tuesday, June 7, our PTO Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast and General Meeting during which we will elect next year’s Board on Friday, June 10, and our Spring Family Picnic at Carr on Wednesday, June 15.
We also hope to see many of you at the parent coffee hosted by Lori on Wednesday, May 11 at 11:30 am.
Stay dry during this rainy week,
Jessica Davis & Lori Berkowitz, PTO Co-Presidents
