Dear Zervas Families,
Happy New Year! We hope you had fun with family over winter break. Catch up with other parents this Friday, January 4 at 8:30 a.m. in the cafetorium at the first PTO Parent Social Coffee of 2019.
We’d like to thank all the Zervas families who donated books to the December Library Book Drive. A total of 49 books have been purchased and dedicated to various teacher and staff members. Chris Detjen and Becky Kinney deserve a big thank you for organizing the book drive which runs through January 5th so it’s not too late to donate a book!
A huge thanks to all the Zervas families who donated a toy to the Zervas Toys for Tots campaign. Thank you to Jackie Washington and Tanya Ianniello for running the drive.
The teachers thank the 40+ families who baked cookies for the Zervas Teacher Cookie Swap. The swap was preceded by the PTO-hosted Inclusive Schools Week Lunch. Thanks to Sanskriti Singh for organizing both, and Dana Fernandez, Suzanne Afergan, Lori Unver, and Adi Barlev-Ehrenberg for their event help.
Understanding Our Differences is a Newton-wide interactive disability awareness curriculum for grades 3-5. Thank you to Cheryl Hersh for coordinating the program at Zervas. And thank you to Katherine Kranenburg, Amy Massey, Erika Pond, and Roysin Younkin for coordinating each grade. We also want to thank the many parents who volunteer their time in the classroom and teach children to see the whole person and better understand the disability.
Planning for the March Zervas Online Auction is underway! This year we are looking to expand this fun, efficient, established committee. Please contact us at auction@zervaspto.org if you’d like to help reach out to businesses or publicize this popular auction, which is a major fundraiser for the PTO.
Do you work for or own a business that would like to donate a few items to our March Zervas Online Auction? Do you have sports tickets or concert tickets you can donate? Or restaurant or store connections that could lead to the donation of a gift card? Reach out to auction@zervaspto.org and someone will follow up.
Come join us for the second annual Family Movie Night, on Thursday, January 24 at 6:15 in the Zervas Cafetorium for the newly released Pixar Animated Shorts Volume 3. Kick back and relax with your kids for the evening. Eat dinner before you go or bring a picnic to eat during the movie. Popcorn and Fruit Snacks will be provided by the PTO. Feel free to bring a blanket or pillow to make yourself more comfortable. And bring your water bottle for filling at the fountains.
