Equity Policy Meeting: March 26

Dear Zervas Community,

There are letters circulating from various Newton elementary school parents and PTO members expressing frustration with the changes to the Equity Guidelines for the 2019-2020 school year.  The Zervas PTO has received these letters and requests to distribute them to our Zervas community.  While we see some of the valid points they are making, we also see misinformation and misrepresentation of information in these letters.  After review and thought, we declined to send them out.

The Zervas PTO has been working closely with Dr. Beck and the Zervas teachers to look at these new changes to allowable PTO spending on equity-related items.  We are carefully and thoughtfully working on a budget that complies with these new guidelines and works well for Zervas.  We firmly believe this reduction in our PTO equity-related spending will not lower the educational standard at Zervas.

We invite all Zervas families to attend our scheduled PTO and School Council meeting on Tuesday, March 26th from 6:00-7:00pm in the library (details below) where we will discuss these new PTO Equity Guidelines and what effect they will have at Zervas.

As always, we welcome your questions.

Maggie Schmidt & Jenn Martin
Zervas PTO Co-Presidents
